Kylie Moore-Gilbert released
British-Australian academic Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert has finally been released after spending more than two years unjustly imprisoned in Iran.
Kylie was arrested at Tehran airport in August 2018 before her return flight to Melbourne and sentenced to 10 years prison on baseless espionage charges. During her imprisonment, she was transferred to Qarchak prison - recognised as one of the worst in Iran - after almost two years of solitary confinement in Tehran's Evin prison.
As a former guest of The Modern Middle East, we are beyond relieved and grateful for Kylie’s family, friends, colleagues and Australian officials who have tirelessly campaigned both publicly and behind the scenes to keep the pressure on the case and secure her release.
We’re also thinking of all the journalists, academics and activists who are currently imprisoned not just in Iran but around the world, who are still waiting for their own day like this.
